The "Praterie" (Grasslands) Project aims at the long-term conservation of grasslands and pastures in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. The Park Authority is the only subject and coordinator of this project, and all the operation services are involved.
Premise of the project is to consider that the precious habitats existing in the Park's grasslands, exactly in those situated within the Campo Imperatore Plateau, are threatened by the anthropic pressure deriving from both the traditional production activities and from the tourist flow.
In order to reduce the effects of such problems the project aims at intervening on different levels to remove or reduce the threats through different actions: the harmonization of the grazing system, more careful ways to use the path network and to manage tourist services, the spread of best conservation practices and of a new culture of sustainable utilization.
