(Assergi, 24 June 2013) - The second monitoring survey for the reconnaissance of the watering troughs available
in the high mountains was carried out in the last days within the Campo Imperatore
area between the Pietranzoni Lake and Mount Faeto. The action is introductory
for the oncoming redistribution of the watering points for cattle and sheep
grazing in Campo Imperatore, namely the territory which the Life + 'Praterie'
community project is focused on, with the Gran Sasso and Laga Mounitains National
Park being beneficiary and coordinator. Through the survey several possibilities
were considered to safeguard the high-mountain small lake and its water reserve.
The monitoring activity aims at acquiring a detailed database of the available
watering points (such as water sources or springs) and of their maintenance
and use conditions within the grazing areas. The reconnaissance on the territory,
and the drafting of survey forms were implemented after the collection of the
data provided by farmers thanks to survey forms given out by the project's
veterinarians. Combining the two data categories will soon make it possible
to classify the intervention priorities, depending on which the renovation
program of the artificial watering points will be directed.
